From June 27 to 30 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, representatives of the State Forensic Science Bureau, Ukrainians Irina Zhuka and Olga Paškova met with representatives of the Kharkiv Forensic Science Institute and discussed Latvia's support for Ukrainian forensic experts in documenting Russian war crimes.
In the ForUkraine project, the State Forensic Science Bureau will support Kharkiv forensic experts with
• necessary equipment and materials;
• experience exchange visits;
• assistance in the development and testing of new forensic methods.
Until Russia's full-scale invasion in Ukraine, Irina and Olga worked at the Kharkiv Forensic Science Institute. Currently, they represent the State Forensic Science Bureau of Latvia and help organize support for their fellow Ukrainian forensic experts in the framework of the ForUkraine project.
The project ForUkraine or " Support for Ukrainian Forensic Experts in documentation of the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation " received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2023 from the development cooperation budget.
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies do significant work in documentation and investigation of the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation. Forensic experts make a significant contribution to this process.
